I feel sympathetic towards Billy because her father wanted a boy and since he got Billy instead he has been treating her like a boy and she hasn't been able to experience life as a girl. she has been struggling with her chores and now with the dust there is no way way to get an adequate meal because the dust storms are tearing up the wheat and the animals lungs are drying up.
Feeling sympathetic means you feel sorry for someone or something. Our recent weather killed 6 people and shut down our school for 3 days and counting. Billy has dust storms almost every day and rarely gets snow or rain. But the difference between our weather is huge. Billy is use to the dust storm’s and whatever else they experience. But the weather kills all the crops that Billy's dad plants. I consider that a lot worse than what we go threw. So I can say I feel sympathetic for Billy.
The storm we had this past weekend is very rare for our area. We usually don't experiance floods, fallen trees, & power outagesto this magnitude. The last storm was a hurricane about 25 years ago. So, this storm was the first in my lifetime. After a few weeks we'll forget about the storm. It will just be a memory like our recent snow storms. Billie experiances severe dry weather everyday. Living in dust all the time, feeling dirty, not having food because the crops and animals have died due to lack of rain. I do feel sorry for Billie.
I'm glad to see your opinions are being supported by details present in the story. Good job! Looking forward to reading more. I will post another question soon, but feel free to post one of your own.
I feel sympathetic towards Billy because her father has treated her like the son he wanted, giving her more endurance needing chores and with the dust it makes it more challenging. The food is covered in dirt, animals are dying from their lungs being filled with dirt.
I feel sympathic for billy and her father ,because we only had one huge storm, but billy had several dust storms. We had only a few days of blackouts and flooding. While billy has several days of dust . the dust causeed many problems. In her food,no crops to grow, and trouble breathing. Our storm this weekend was like experiance we rarely had faced long while. Our storm to billy was like nothing!
I think, much like what Nick said, the weather differences are much different, Billie is dealing with dust and sand flying all over quite often, to her all that rain would have been a blessing from God, our rainstorm was pretty bad but nothing in comparison to a dust storm, we can go inside to get away from the rain, everywhere Billie went the dust followed her and everybody, I sympathise her very much.
I feel sympathetic towars Billy Jo and everyone else that lives in her town/state because they have to suffer through dust storms. The dust is always getting in their food, mouth, eyes, house, etc., and always making it hard to grow food. The recent rainstorm that we had was damaging, but we don't have to experience huge rainstorms as often as Billy and everyone else that lives in Oklahoma have to experience dust storms.
I feel very sypathetic towards Billie and her family. The weather is the exact opposite of the rain storm we just had, but it's just as bad. The duststorms are ruining her farm, and they have lost all their crops. The dust is everywhere, and it causes so many problems. I hope Billie Jo, her family, and everyone can all go somewhere else where there is no dust.
Jenny, look how debilitating one storm was. School was closed for days, trees down, and no electricity. It goes to show how reliant we have become on others. How many adults could overcome a tragedy like the Dust Bowl? Now put yourself in Billie Joe's shoes. Thanks for posting a question.
To be quite honest, I feel no sympathy torwards the main character, Billie-Jo. Why? To me, a book is a book, that's it. It's not meant to be an emotional roller-coaster. Yes, when I read a book I get deep into it, but it's just writing; ink on paper. There are a few select books that will actually bother me like so, make me feel sympathy or sorrow. To make a long story short, our recent weather had no affect on my sympathy torwards the main character.
I feel sympathetic for Billie-Jo because compared to us hes had it alot worse. We've only had a rain storm for one night and hes been having dust storms that are dangerous. Their also not getting rain for their crops and most people are probably scared to water the crops in a middle of a dust storm.
I Feel somewhat simpathetic for Billie Jo in some ways. She is having tragic dust storms that go on for days on end and we are having some rain storms. Billie Jo prays for rain and we hope it gets hotter. Billie Jo can't even leave her house because of dust storms. There are many different opinions reguarding this book and our lives.
I have to agree with Robbie and Trevor. We were able to fix the problem with our technology, but in her time set, she couldnt do anything about it except cower in fear or find shelter from a nearly sealed fate.
Im not sure I feel sympathetic. Billy has been having dust storms and we have had rain storms.

ReplyDeleteHow do people relate our storm that rarely happens to Billy's dust storm that is always causing problems?

ReplyDeleteI can feel billie jo's pain as I had quite a storm that left me with power surges She also lost her brother and mom from fireburn.
